You can make a difference

Meet Cathy Thomas, Elburn, Illinois

How long have you been holding your Bunco For Breast Cancer event?
We have been holding our event since 2004 - our 7th event took place on October 13 and 14, 2010 at the Lions Park in Elburn.

How has your event grown over the years?
Our event becomes better and larger each year.

Do you set fundraising goals for each successive event?
Our goal is just to surpass our amount from the year before.

How much have you raised to date?
We have raised almost $90,000 since the beginning

What motivates you to organize Bunco For Breast Cancer events?
It is a great cause and people in our small town, Elburn, IL, expect and look forward to this event each year.

Do you have a personal connection to the cause?
We all know someone personally who has been affected by breast cancer and this is such a fun way to share information about prevention while raising money for prevention and a cure.

Do you have any words of wisdom for first-time event organizers?
Learn as much as you can from other groups... the rules, the scoring, the set up, get copies of the score cards, the programs, the rules they use, room set up, donation request letters etc and then use what works best for your individual group.

To what extent does The Breast Cancer Research Foundation figure in your decision to hold a Bunco For Breast Cancer event?
We donate to the BCRF because of their wonderful record of donating the highest percentage of funds raised towards research for a cure.

NOTE: Cathy and some of her group retired in 2009, but she put in place a new event committee that has already proved itself a worthy and dedicated team.
